Geofence
Geofences are essential tools in fleet management, allowing you to monitor vehicle movements within the specified zones. Events are triggered when vehicles enter or exit these geofences.
Types of Geofences
1. Polygon Geofences
- Description : Areas defined by multiple points forming a closed shape.
- Use Case : Useful for monitoring large areas like delivery zones or restricted areas.
- Steps to Create :
- Go to the Settings option and select the Geofence tab.
- In the Geofence creation tool, select Polygon as the geometry type.
- Define the points on the map to form the polygon.
- Save and assign the geofence to specific vehicles or groups.
2. Polyline Geofences
- Description : A series of connected lines.
- Use Case : Ideal for monitoring routes or specific pathways.
- Steps to Create :
- Go to the Settings option and select the Geofence tab.
- In the Geofence creation tool, select Polyline as the geometry type.
- Draw the lines on the map to form the desired route.
- Save and assign the geofence to specific vehicles or groups.
Permissions and Management
- Permissions : Geofences can be linked to devices or groups, allowing for precise monitoring. Users with appropriate access can edit or remove geofences and subscribe to related events.
- Calendar Integration : Geofences can be linked to calendars to schedule events, enhancing operational efficiency.
Assigning Geofences
- After creating a geofence, connect it to a vehicle on the Maps page by using the three-dot menu and selecting Connections.
- Select the geofence you created.
- The geofence is now active and will generate alerts based on the defined parameters.
1. Creating and Assigning Geofences
Creating Geofences
- Open the Geofence creation tool.
- Select the type of geofence (Polygon or Polyline).
- For a Polygon geofence, click on the map to define the boundary points. For a Polyline geofence, draw the route by clicking along the path.
- Name the geofence and set any additional parameters (e.g., notification settings).
- Save the geofence.
Assigning Geofences
- After creating a geofence, connect it to a vehicle on the Maps page by using the three-dot menu and selecting ‘Connections’.
- Select the geofence you created.
- The geofence is now active and will generate alerts based on the defined parameters.
2. Creating Polyline Geofences
Creating Polyline Geofences
- Access the Polyline Geofence creation tool.
- Start by clicking on the map to define the start of the route.
- Continue clicking to add points along the desired path.
- Complete the polyline by double-clicking on the final point.
- Name the polyline geofence and set any relevant parameters (e.g., speed limits, polyline distance).
- Save the polyline geofence.
Assigning Geofences
- After creating a geofence, connect it to a vehicle on the Maps page by using the three-dot menu and selecting ‘Connections’.
- Select the geofence you created.
- Save the assignments to activate the geofence.
Geofences are a powerful feature in Advanced Telematics, enabling efficient fleet management through detailed monitoring and event tracking. By utilizing polygon and polyline geofences, you can ensure better control and visibility over your fleet’s operations.
